READ | The Municipality of Moncada showcased its excellence at Tarlac Province’s 9th KanLahi (Kanlungan ng Lahi) Festival, held from March 3 to March 9, 2025, securing multiple awards and distinctions.
The Bahay-Kubo and Product Display at Agri Cultura Exhibit captivated audiences from across the province with its innovative presentation of Moncada’s signature products, including Don Benito Wine, Puto Moncada, Ice Kreamote, and various farm produce, earning it the championship title.
Alongside this, Chef Leo Lapurga achieved victory in Unang Hirit’s Takampanya segment, impressing the judges and audience with his original take on native Chicken Adobo sa Kamote, a dish that showcased Moncada’s staple root crop.
Moreover, for the second time, Moncada through the Mananayaw of District 5 reclaimed the championship title in the highly anticipated Street Dancing competition. According to the Tourism Regional Director, the town’s victory was attributed to its well-synchronized choreography, excellent props management, and exceptional concept, which set it apart from the competition.
Furthermore, Ginoong Moncada Mark Joseph Cornejo made Moncadeñans proud with his strong performance at Ginoong Kanlahi 2025, earning a spot in the Top 10. Likewise, Binibining Moncada Mary Rose T. Grande impressed the judges at Binibining Kanlahi 2025, securing a place in the Top 8.
Also, Moncada national High School’s pride, Aldrin Jay Ingco and Andrea Nicole Soriente secured Second Place in the Standard Teen Spirit Category, while Carl Erold Pascual and Bianca Ivonne Marquez, of the same school, placed Fifth in the Latin Teen Spirit Category of the 5th Susan Yap Ball and Dance Cup, held on March 4, 2025, at Bulwagan ng Gobernador, Tarlac City.
On the same day, Moncada Just Dance Zumba Groovers also participated in the Kanlahi Zumba Fest 2025, showcasing their energy and enthusiasm with more than 40 Zumba Groups from the different municipalities of Tarlac Province.
On top of these achievements, Moncada’s Paralympics Team also delivered outstanding performances. Desiree Quiboloy emerged as champion in the Saklay Race, Maricel Cleofas earned a gold medal in the 100m Track and Field event, Edilyn Tablatin secured silver in Long Jump, and Alvin Rama won silver in Luksong Sako.
Finally, Moncada float takes the third spot during the 9th Kanlahi Grand Float Parade and Competition, highlighting Moncada’s colorful celebration of the Kamote Festival, a one-of-a-kind celebration of the bountiful harvest of Sweet Potato in the Municipality. It also includes the Don Benito Wine, a famous thirst quencher made from the fundamental root crop. This award served as a fitting culmination to Moncada’s impressive showcase of skills and achievements at the 9th Kanlahi Festival.
Moncada illustrated its strong preparation and competitive spirit at the 9th Kanlahi Festival, winning multiple events. Its jaw-dropping street dance performance and acclaimed Bahay-Kubo exhibit stood out, while representatives in culinary, pageantry, and Paralympics secured top ranks, bringing pride to its people.
“Sobrang saya ko kasi, I was not expecting na ganito karami ang award na mai-uuwi natin,” said Mayor Aquino. “Congratulations sa lahat ng naging representatives ng ating bayang Moncada – nanalo man o hindi pinalad, sorang proud ako at ang buong bayan natin sa inyong lahat,” she added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Andrew Y. Corpuz, the Tourism Officer of Moncada, also conveyed his gratitude to the people who have worked behind the scenes.
